About this stay

Silverton Mountain Ski Area stands as a thrilling sanctuary for advanced alpine enthusiasts craving raw, ungroomed terrain. With a single old double chairlift ascending above 12,000 feet, every run begins with a hike—some short, others challenging—revealing expansive slopes rarely touched to preserve the powder's pristine quality. This isn’t a typical resort with broad groomed trails; it’s an alpine playground where every descent tests skill and daring.

The atmosphere here is rugged and genuine, reminiscent of classic mountain skiing before lifts and crowds transformed the experience. Facilities are no-frills: a modest bar, basic restrooms with limited wheelchair access, and recommendations to secure tickets in advance to navigate the morning bustle smoothly. While there is no on-site restaurant, the mountain provides a pure and unfiltered connection to nature and the sport.

Those drawn here appreciate the challenge and the community of like-minded skiers who respect the mountain’s demands. Payment methods are modern—including credit, debit, and NFC mobile options—keeping logistics straightforward despite the remote setting. Silverton is where serious skiers come to earn their turns and soak in some of the most intense, untracked terrain North America offers.

"Don't expect much on the amenity side of things but expect a lot of exceptional skiing and riding terrain. One lift that tops out above 12,000 feet and most runs require a hike to access. You also hike out and catch a bus back to the lift. No beginner runs or really even intermediate runs as it's all black diamond and above but quite the exceptional runs and the snow can run deep as well. Bring your big boy and..."

"Wow! What an amazing place. Skiing in its purest and most difficult form. Any superlative you can think of applies. Big Mountain. All Backcountry. No frills. Mandatory training before you even get on the one single old 2 person chairlift. They don’t even rate the runs. They start at Double Black EX and go up from there. Want bigger? Hop on a heli for a run or 6. Every run involves a hike ranging from 10 minutes to a 90..."

"Unreal, unforgettable skiing. I will remember this place for the rest of my life. Spent two days skiing the best untracked powder. Even with days old snow, we found amazing glade and bowl skiing. Not for the faint of heart. Respect the mountain, respect your own skills and only do what you are comfortable with. This place is no joke."

"I've been multiple times and will continue visiting in the future. This is not your typical ski resort experience. Make sure you're in good shape if you want to get your money's worth. Riding in the helicopter is novel. The ticket tent can be a bit of a cluster in the morning, so sign your waivers ahead of time."

"Can't say enough positive things about Silverton Mountain. Fair warning, it's busy during unguided season, so be prepared, go to the website and read up so you're ready . You will avoid long lines by doing this. Have your pass , Id in hand , screenshot of your pass agreement/waiver Be prepared for icy road conditions and pass closures. It is a super fun place and the opposite of a resort. I look forward to returning to ski Silverton every..."

"Not much to look at from the base. Muddy parking along the road. An old double lift, a school bus converted into a rental shop. A barely functioning school bus shuttle.. But the terrain from the top of the lift is phenomenal! And the heli skiing is a must-do.. What a ride!"

"Great guides. Really steep terrain, it's not for beginners. Tons of fun and adventure. Be ready to hike at 12k feet, not too much hiking, but it's awesome. It's very local and like ski areas used to be 30 years ago. They do an amazing job."
